FWA, in collaboration with BAS, ADDX, SC Ventures and BondEvalue, is pleased to bring you the next FWA Exchange Session: Understanding Blockchain and Smart Contracts in the Financial Industry. 

 

Blockchain technology and its applications such as Smart Contracts have been gaining rapid momentum in recent years with the ability to disrupt many industries including the financial industry and potentially achieve mainstream adoption. In this session, we have invited a team of esteemed panellists to share their views on the following topics:

 

  1. Overview and basics of Blockchain Technology & Smart Contracts
  2. Discover the Use Cases applied to the various finance industries (ie capital markets, banks etc)
  3. How Blockchain acts as an aide, rather than a threat in the Financial Industry
  4. Risk management and regulatory development of Blockchain
  5. Future developments and opportunities of Blockchain & Smart Contracts

Daruis Liu, Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer, ADDX

 

 Darius has over 15 years’ experience in the public and private sectors. This diversity of career experiences has allowed Darius to effectively blend different perspectives and drive strategic transformation initiatives in government bodies and financial institutions.

 

As Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of ADDX, Darius was instrumental in building ADDX from its early stages to the regulated financial institution it is today. Currently, Darius oversees day-to-day operations of the company, including commercial growth via investor and issuer recruitment and onboarding. Darius also serves as Board Director and member of the Board Audit and Risk Committee of the company.

 

Prior to joining ADDX, Darius held various roles at GIC, and was most recently Vice President of Total Portfolio Strategy (TPS) in the Economics and Investment Strategy department. Darius was a recipient of the Public Service Commission Overseas Merit Scholarship and has served in the Singapore Government, including in Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (where he was Head of Strategic and Operational Planning), and the Investment and Reserves department of Singapore’s Ministry of Finance.

 

Darius graduated top of his class at Cornell University, where he earned a BSc and MSc in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a Master of Science in Financial Engineering from the National University of Singapore.

 

Gwenda Phillips, Chief Risk Officer, SC Ventures, and Global Head, Crypotoassets Risk Management, Standard Chartered Bank

 

Gwenda Phillips is the Chief Risk Officer for SC Ventures, and Global Head, Cryptoassets Risk Management.

 

SC Ventures is Standard Chartered Bank’s platform to promote innovation, invest in disruptive financial technology, and explore alternative business models. Gwenda also leads the Bank’s Cryptoasset Risk Management team to enable growth in digital assets.

 

Gwenda has previously held senior roles at ANZ where she led teams across multiple countries and divisions including: Corporate and Commercial Banking, International Business Development, Wealth Operating Risk, Sales Execution, Operations, Business Transformation and Digital Innovation. Her last role with ANZ was as the acting Chief Risk Officer for Digital. Gwenda is also the co-founder of an international mind-health start-up: Your Hidden Mind.

 

Gwenda believes that having consistent routine plus the 20 minutes rule is key to success. The 20 minutes rule is do 20 minutes of personal related things (e.g. admin, finances, homework, your side hustle) before work in the morning every day and keep your weekends free to recharge and have fun!

 

Rahul Banerjee, Founder & CEO, BondEvalue

 

Rahul is a Fixed Income banker with deep expertise in Asian Capital markets. Prior to starting BondEvalue, Rahul was the Global Head for International Corporates, Financial Market Sales at Standard Chartered Bank. His team was based across all the major SCB dealing rooms and covered the Fixed Income needs of large corporate clients. Prior to this he was MD and Regional Head of Capital Markets for South Asia. He was also a member of the Bank’s Capital Markets Global Management team. The team was responsible for debt fundraising across both international and domestic markets. For 2014, they won the Business World-PWC Foreign currency Bond Dealmaker of the year among many other awards from IFR, Asset AAA magazine etc. Over the course of his career, he has worked at Nomura Securities Singapore, Credit Suisse and Citibank. He graduated from Delhi College of Engineering and did his MBA from the Indian School of Business (Dean's List), where he received the HSBC scholarship for leadership.  He holds two patents in his name. Rahul lives in Singapore with his wife and two daughters.

 

Moderator:

Chia Hock Lai, Co-Chairman of Blockchain Association Singapore

 

Chia Hock Lai is the CEO of  Switchnovate and senior blockchain advisor to Tembusu Partners and has two decades of experience in the financial and technology industry, having worked in Singapore’s GovTech and NTUC Income.

 

An alumnus of NUS and NTU, he is the founding president of Singapore Fintech Association, a founding board member of the Global Fintech Institute and co-chairman of the Blockchain Association Singapore. He is a council member of and strategic advisor to numerous fintech startups and organizations, such as IEEE C/BDL, Singapore Sichuan Trade & Investment Committee, Global Impact Fintech Forum and a Fellow of the Singapore University of Social Science (SUSS).

No Show Policy

We understand that with busy schedules, there may be times when you cannot make an event after you have registered for it. In the event that you cannot make an event, we appreciate that you use our new tool now available to cancel the event. Cancellation is allowed up to 2 days ahead of the event date. To do so, please log in to the FWA website, under “My Account”, select “My Events”, you can cancel the event registration under the “Cancel registration” column. For members that no-show for 3 consecutive events, we regret to inform that you will be barred from attending any FWA events for the next 3 months.
