SPEAKER PROFILES

 

LIM HWEE HUA

 Former Minister,  Singapore Prime Minister’s Office 

 

 

Lim Hwee Hua was first elected to Parliament in December 1996 and served till May 2011, last as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Singapore, and concurrently as Second Minister for Finance and for Transport. Between 2002 and 2004, she was Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

 

Prior to joining the Singapore Cabinet, Lim Hwee Hua enjoyed a varied career in financial services. At Temasek Holdings (2000 – 2004), she served as Managing Director where she oversaw divestments, restructured companies and boards, established strategic relations with key foreign counterparts and sat on boards including PSA, Keppel and Mapletree.

 

Lim Hwee Hua graduated with a Master of Arts (Honours) in Mathematics/Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 1981. In 1989, she obtained a Master of Business Administration, major in Finance, from the Anderson School of Management, University of California at Los Angeles.

 

Lim Hwee Hua is currently engaged in private equity (Tembusu Partners, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts), banks (United Overseas Bank, Westpac Bank), maritime services (Bergesen Worldwide Group), sits on a few boards and is a Distinguished Visiting Fellow of National University of Singapore at both the Business School and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. Between 2011 and 2014, she served on the Ernst & Young Global Advisory Council. Lim Hwee Hua authored the publication “Government in Business – Friend or Foe” in 2014. This has been translated into Chinese “变革-市场中的政府角色“ 2014, Portuguese “O Governo Nas Empresas – Amigo ou Inimigo?“ 2016, and Spanish “Intervención gubernamental en el sector privado: ¿ángel o demonio?” 2016.

 

WONG SU-YEN

 

 

WONG Su-Yen is Chairperson of Nera Telecommunications, a global telecom and IT solutions provider that operates in Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa, listed on the Singapore Exchange Mainboard. She serves as an Independent Director at MediaCorp, Singapore’s leading media company which is wholly owned by Temasek Holdings; Yoma Strategic Holdings which is a large-cap listed on the Singapore Exchange Mainboard with diversified business interests in Myanmar across Real Estate, Consumer, Agriculture/Heavy Equipment, and Financial Services; and NTUC First Campus which is the largest provider of childcare services in Singapore.

 

Su-Yen brings experience in business strategy, human capital development, organisation transformation, and risk management across North America and Asia.  Previously she was CEO of the Human Capital Leadership Institute, and prior to that, Chairman (Singapore) for Marsh & McLennan Companies, and Senior Partner and Managing Director, Southeast Asia at Mercer. Earlier, she was Asia Managing Partner for the Communications, Information & Entertainment practice at Oliver Wyman.

 

She is a Fellow and member of the Governing Council, Singapore Institute of Directors, and an active member of Women Corporate Directors, and the Young Presidents’ Organization. She holds a B.A. (summa cum laude) in music and computer science from Linfield College and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the only Asia-based individual named to the Financial Times’ Agenda Directory of Top 100 Board Candidates With Pay-Setting Skills.

We understand that with busy schedules, there may be times when you cannot make an event after you have registered for it. In the event that you cannot make an event, we appreciate that you use our new tool now available to cancel the event. For members that no-show for 3 consecutive events, we regret to inform that you will be barred from attending any FWA events for the next 3 months.
