Dear Members,

During 2013/2014 FWA Singapore’s chosen charitable organization was Pistorio Foundation. Thanks to your generous contribution we have raised funds to help children in Thailand. Pistorio’s motto: “On the way to school, on the way to life” shares their emphasis on education for communities to be sustainable. There are so many children who suffer from lack of opportunities to attend schooling due to family circumstances amongst which is financial constraints. Educating these children will equip them with basic literacy and create a better future for them. Two of our exco members went to Chiang Rai in Thailand to visit schools the Pistorio Foundation are supporting. They spent five days teaching three age groups: primary, secondary and professional school students. Additionally, thanks to FWA’s collaboration with Junior Achievement (JA) in 2014/2015 the volunteers were given teaching materials which are used in JA programs. It was a great contribution and the children really appreciated it. Below are some of their sharing of their experience.

Low Chin Loo, Immediate Past President, current exco member and events chair: “I had been wanting to visit Pistorio Foundation's village project in Chiang Rai since FWA selected them as our charity beneficiary in 2013. The trip reinforced my belief of the good work that Pistorio Foundation does, for the community in need. The combination of sincerity, perseverance and comprehension of local issues, I hope, will continue to draw donors to support this credible charity. I loved meeting the children, the teachers, the Pistorio Foundation volunteers and workers. Chiang Rai and Doi Chang were beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed the teaching experience and would definitely do it again. To my fellow volunteers on the trip - you were fab!”

Beata Piechura, exco member and charity co-chair: “All the schools we visited are ran well. The teachers are dedicated to promote education and children receive good care. I have enjoyed a lot being in all 3 schools, but the most touching was to teach the primary school children in the remote village close to Chiang Rai. The kids are so eager to learn and play. We had a couple of sessions with them and it was so great to see how fast they learn new things. At the end of the day each of them got own polaroid photograph which was a lot of fun."
