Launch of Advancing Women in Finance 2015 – FWA’s award winning mentoring programme

FWA is delighted to launch its 2015 award winning mentoring programme for women, Advancing Women in Finance (AWF), winner of the AWARE New Initiatives 2013 award.  AWF is now in its fourth year and we are looking for your continued support to ensure this programme becomes ‘best in class’ within the financial services sector. 

Advancing Women in Finance (AWF) 2015 Details

- Dates: April through October, for 6 months, which will allow Mentees to measure their progress and implement changes
- Participants: We have between 20-25 slots available for both Mentors and Mentees and we are looking for a broad and diverse range of women from all areas of the financial services industry to join in
- Mentees: There will be four skills development sessions for Mentees 
- Mentors: A Mentoring Skills session will be included for Mentors looking for support
- Male Champions: To work with Mentors and Mentees in support of AWF
- Support: Corporate Members are encouraged to put forward qualified male and female Mentors and to provide venues for the evening meetings and skills development sessions

AWF 2014 highlights

What Mentors said:

- Well structured (booklet from start of programme), adequate progress checkpoints (mentor, mentee general meetings)

- It's very well organized and both mentors and mentees were well prepared and expectations clarified. Also, the mid-way check-ins were useful

- One of the better mentoring programmes I've worked with … you did a very good job. People were clearly very motivated.

- Learnt more about working with others who might be very different from me; learnt to be more structured in mentoring; enjoyed meeting my mentee and hearing her journey

- Personally as a mentor, I would say how can we ourselves, develop to be a better coach, mentor or advisor. In that sense, how can the programme arrange more development for the Mentor (to grow) as well as the Mentee 

- It taught me to listen closely, to put myself in someone else's shoes and really try to think of good advice from my own personal experience.

- The programme was methodically organized and very professionally done.

- The "speed-dating" session to ensure a suitable mentor-mentee match was great

- The final dinner/ceremony was a great way to conclude the programme

What Mentees said:

- It was a great programme and I appreciated the workshops that considered our work / personal life as an integrated whole 

- Very structured and rich in content

- Mentor-Mentee matchmaking session was great. Good deliberate efforts to get Mentees involved in a sub-committee projects to understand the hard work that goes into making FWA functional

- Consider getting influential and inspirational figures to share with the Mentees

- I’ve become more confident: Now understand my character traits: Able to communicate with my team leader better

- I have more confidence in my longer term goals

- Better awareness of how to make a mentoring relationship successful (through the materials provided)

- Made some great friends in the other Mentees
