A worrying 70% of financial services CEOs now see the limited availability of key skills as a threat to their growth prospects, a big jump from the already high 59% we saw last year.  Businesses aren’t just competing for seasoned FS professionals, but also the more diverse and hybrid types of talent demanded in a sector facing the disruptive impact of new technology, more complex regulation and increasing competition from new entrants. To remain competitive in this environment, companies have no choice but to change the way they look at talents and future leaders.

Interestingly, of the FS companies which have a strategy to promote talent, diversity and inclusiveness, 85% have found it to improve business performance, whilst 80% say it has helped in strengthening brand and reputation.

Drawing on the findings of PwC’s 18th Global CEO Survey and their wide-ranging work with FS clients, the presenters will explore what kind of people are needed to take FS organisations business forward in this transforming marketplace, how to attract, retain and reward them, how to optimise their performance and what it really takes to drive change in mindset and culture in order to embrace diversity & inclusion.  They will also set out the key talent priorities for FS organisations.

About the speakers

KAREN LOON
Banking and Capital Markets Leader and Diversity and Inclusion Leader, Partner, PwC Singapore

Based in Singapore, Karen joined PwC Australia in 1990 and transferred to PwC Singapore in 1994. She is a client relationship partner in the Assurance practice with clients in the banking industry.  In 2013, Karen was appointed as PwC Singapore's Banking and Capital Markets Leader, and Territory Diversity Leader. She is also the East Cluster Diversity Co-ordinator and the chair of PwC’s Global Financial Services Diversity Steering Committee. 

Being a third generation Australian born Chinese whose family emigrated from China in 1870, but having worked for most of her career in Asia, Karen is passionate about ensuring that both women and those from culturally diverse backgrounds are given the right opportunities to thrive within their organisations. She is an Executive Committee member of the Singapore Committee for UN Women, a committee member of Boardagender, and was an active committee member of Financial Women's Association (Singapore).

MARTIJN SCHOUTEN
People & Change Director as part of PwC South East Asia Consulting

Based in Singapore, Martijn has been with PwC for 11 years after having worked as an HR Consultant for a boutique HR consulting firm. Martijn drives the People & Change practice in Singapore which supports clients in a wide variety in industries with people-related challenges. Martijn is passionate about organizational change; the dynamics that kick-in when companies embark on a journey to change the way they conduct business. 

Martijn is born and raised in the Netherlands, but left his hometown to travel the world when he was 19 years old. He traveled and worked his way from Europe to Africa and the Caribbean. After graduating in Social Science, Policy, Communication & Organisation at the Vrije University in Amsterdam he started an international career. Being part of the PwC network, Martijn lived and worked in various countries in Europe, Dubai and moved to Singapore in 2012.
