Women account for 85% of all consumer purchases including everything from auto to health care.  In fact, they are digitally savvy with 22% shopping online at least once a day and 92% of them passing along information about deals or finds to others (source: Mindshare/Oglivy).  At Mastercard, we're establishing solutions that address the specific needs of this new digital ecosystem with women in the driver’s seat.  In doing so, we're transforming the way women securely shop, sell and send and receive money to achieve their daily goals.

By deeply understanding her needs, Mastercard aims to improve the lives of the “do-it-all” generation of women by creating better, more convenient commerce experiences throughout the day. It is our time now to positively influence this transition into the digital economy by creating tools that make school payments and lunch orders for her kids as easy as the click of a button on her mobile device.  Technology can get her to work more seamlessly through contactless smart clothes and accessories.  Payment enabled wearables allow her to keep fit without compromises despite a relentless “on the go” lifestyle.  She can ensure that she gets the best deal by ordering groceries from multiple merchants directly from her fridge.  She gets product advice and recommendations through enjoyable and human-like experiences like Pepper, the humanoid robot.

It was clear that without understanding her daily “jobs”, the adoption of digital payment technology will not be adopted at scale.  Women can play a pivotal role in articulating and designing interoperability across modes of transportation, in giving more convenient access to public services and benefits, increasing the convenience and speed of commerce through digital, and in optimizing the underlying solutions by better understanding daily behaviors and needs.

Now is the right time for females to define this future, to make digital solutions increasingly viable for everyday life and spending.  With much enthusiasm, women will be the leaders in creating better, simple, and more sustainable commerce and payment solutions of the future.

Join us in this talk on understanding payments, the role women play and the innovation that results. And those who stay to the end can get a chance to tour Mastercard’s new Innovation Center!
